MORRIS OXFORD SIX 1930/1935

The Oxford went six cylinder after the 1929 season and the result was the well appointed 1930 model "LA" with a 14.9 h.p. engine and such innovations as Lockheed hydraulic brakes. Luvax shock absorbers, coil ignition and calostat operated radiator shutters. The familiar artillery wheels had been replaced by small hub five-stud wire wheels carrying 28 x 5.25 ( i.e. 5.25 x 18) Dunlop tyres. Also gone was the round badge and in it's place a winged version carrying the words "Morris Oxford". Twin bar bumpers were fitted.

Changes for the 1931 season were few but included the fitting of Magna wire wheels to the coupe and Sliding-head Saloon models as standard (on other models the Magna wheels were extra). On the Saloon a folding arm rest was added for the convenience of the rear passengers and all models had the new shoe-type accelerator pedal fitted.

More pronounced changes came with the 1932 season with the radiator design more rounded and with chromium plated radiator shutters and the horn built into the lamp bar between mudguards completely altering the front end appearance. A new "twin-top" 4 speed gearbox replaced the original 3 speed unit, head cushions were supplied fittings, and Morris designers had reversed the positions of clock and speedometer!

A larger engine of 15.9 hp was the main change in the 1933 model. Early models for the season had received the Wilcot trafficator indicators which were subsequently replaced with the semaphore type units.

The 1934 season came with the Oxford Six now available in left-hand or right-hand drive versions. To a new radiator design was added a fog lamp as standard equipment and a new design of single bar bumper. Internally, the front front seat was now a full width unit allowing the designers to fit a folding table at the rear. Also folding was the foot rest fitted for the rear passengers comfort. Arm rests were now fitted to both front and rear seats. A spare wheel cover was added. The 15.9 hp "QB" engine had a Bendix automatic clutch control and a free wheel.

I would be interested to hear from anybody who knows any of the past history of my own car (above) prior to 1989, and also any details from anybody who owns a similar model or knows of the existence of any others, including cars outside the Morris Register. Please email the editor with details such as registration number/chassis number/contact names/photo's etc.
My intention is to circulate details of the cars, with owners permission, to other owners with similar models which will have the mutual benefit of the exchange of information and the possibility of help with spare parts.
